    Exhibition of the Folk Fine Arts “According to own Fantasy” The Museum joins the educational project of national up-to-dating of cultural heritage, expansion of cultural tourism and modern museum initiatives organized by the Association of Lithuanian Museums – “Road of Lithuanian Museums” – for the second time already offering the present exhibition this year. As the Parliament (Seimas) of the Republic of Lithuania decided to proclaim the year 2015 as the Year of Ethnographical Regions, so the organizers of the “Road of Lithuanian Museums” develop the topic “Beauty of the Folk Art”. Its events are included into the plan of commemoration actions of the Year of Ethnographical Regions approved by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. The exhibition “According to own Fantasy” presents the collections of Druskininkai town museum and Trakai historical museum, as well as paintings from the private collection of Gediminas Petraitis. The essence of the exhibition is reflected by the words of the famous folk artist Romanas Krasninkevičius (1926 – 1996) written in his autobiography: “Upon completion of difficult rural works I used to hide in the attic, look at the illustrations of Šimonis for the book “Chit-Chat of the Dusk” and children magazine “Little Sun”, and draw the pictures created from my fantasy”. The paintings of the saints, portraits and graphical works are exhibited. The aim of the exhibition is to introduce the visitors to the Lithuanian folk fine arts, to present this part of the Lithuanian cultural heritage to the foreign visitor, to induce interest of young people in folk art, and to encourage them to cherish and protect that art.
